Obama's Take on Gay Rights

Okay, this is exciting! Obama wants to add LGBTs to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (FINALLY!), support full-right civil unions (still pleasing the religious on that one which of course I think is stupid but at least LGBTs will get the rights they deserve), REPEALING Don't Ask Don't Tell!!!!!, and probably one of the most important in my view - extending adoption rights for all couples!!! Wahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I'm not surprised at all by these jail terms in Senegal. Even if this is an "up and coming" nation, they were lucky to live in one of the few African countries where they wouldn't be killed for their "offense" of being gay. The gay rights movement is beginning to snowball, but it will probably be years before we see legalization and true acceptance within the international community. I understand that religion has helped us as a society to grow (albeit centuries ...

Excerpts from a Washington Post Article:

Teenagers who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are just as likely to have premarital sex as those who do not promise abstinence and are significantly less likely to use condoms and other forms of birth control when they do.

More than half of youths became sexually active before marriage regardless of whether they had taken a "virginity pledge," but that the percentage who took precautions against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases ...

Noooooooo

(CNN) -- Sponsors of the California ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage are seeking to nullify thousands of marriages between gay and lesbian couples performed after the state Supreme Court ruled them constitutional.

The passage of Proposition 8 left the future of thousands of marriages between same-sex couples unclear.

The sponsors Friday filed responses to three anti-Proposition 8 lawsuits with the state Supreme Court. The briefs also defend Proposition 8 against ...

Brown Moves to Nix Prop. 8

Should he run again for governor of California, Jerry Brown could face off against San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who has been a prominent supporter of gay marriage.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown, who’s considering running for another stint as the Golden State’s governor, has changed his position on Proposition 8 and has asked the state Supreme Court to nullify the gay marriage ban on grounds that it violates citizens’ inalienable rights ...

I hate to say this, but the Pope is such a jerk. Religion is holding us back from creating a truly progressive society, where EQUAL rights prevail. Maybe this should have been posted in the "religion" section...

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Monday that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behavior was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.

"(The Church) should also protect man from the destruction of himself. A sort ...
